Donation of Concrete Rings to the Village Temple

The sewage disposal pit at the Vijaya Giri Pirivena Viharaya in Korala Ima, Gonapola, recently suffered a sudden structural failure. This posed a significant problem, given the large number of young novice monks and other monks residing there for their Pirivena education. In response to a request from the Head of the Pirivena, Ven. Udaththawa Ariyagnana Thero, I donated four concrete rings and a cover on August 6, 2026, to facilitate the repair of the pit. The project chairman is Lion Nandika Perera, President of the Arawwala Lions Club.

On July 5, 2026, the cleaning of the Vijaya Giri Pirivena Temple in Korala Ima, Gonapola—along with the sorting and proper disposal of accumulated waste to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitoes—was carried out by Lion Nandika Perera (President of the Arawwala Lions Club) and his environmental team, together with Lion Vidusha Perera (President of the Arawwala Leo Club). Ven. Udaththawa Ariyagnana Thero, the Head of the Pirivena at the temple, provided guidance for the event.

Dengue Prevention program and School Cleaning at Dodangoda President Collage

A Dengue Prevention and Environmental Cleaning Project was successfully conducted at President College, Dodangoda, with the objective of creating a cleaner and safer school environment while increasing awareness about dengue prevention. Members of the KDE Lions Club, together with parents and teachers of President College, actively participated in cleaning the school premises and eliminating potential mosquito breeding areas. As part of the awareness campaign, dengue prevention posters and banners were displayed throughout the school premises, and educational leaflets were distributed within the school. Additional banners, posters, and leaflets were handed over to the teachers for further distribution among students, helping to spread dengue prevention awareness throughout the entire school community. It was a remarkable and memorable event that created a positive impact on everyone who participated. The programme brought members and their families closer together and gave the Lions renewed energy, motivation, and team spirit to successfully carry out the Club’s activities throughout the entire Lionistic Year. A total of 14 Lions and 21 family members participated in the event. Everyone enjoyed the programme, making it a wonderful beginning to the new Lionistic Year and strengthening the fellowship, friendship, unity, and commitment of the Club.

Conducting Awareness program With Horana MOH

The Horana MOH Public Health Inspectors and the Dengue Control Unit staff were invited to conduct a house-to-house dengue inspection programme in the Gonapola, Korala Ima area on 5 July 2026. During the programme, Public Health Inspectors inspected residences to identify potential mosquito breeding sites and educated residents on effective dengue prevention and control measures. The inspection team also visited homes where dengue patients had been reported and provided the necessary health advice and guidance to the affected families. In the interest of protecting public health, legal action was initiated against five households that had maintained mosquito breeding sites, in accordance with the relevant public health regulations. Fogging operations were carried out throughout the area to help prevent the spread of dengue mosquitoes. Training workshop for small-scale industrialists to export their products

The Lions Club of Piliyandala, in collaboration with the Assistant Government Agent (AGA) – Kesbewa Divisional Secretariat and her staff, successfully organized an Export Training Programme for small-scale industrialists on 16 July 2026 from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. Approximately 25 small-scale industrialists participated in the programme. The workshop was conducted by a retired lecturer from the Ministry of Finance, who delivered informative lectures and conducted interactive training sessions on export opportunities, export procedures, market access, and business development strategies.
