Childhood Cancer

Through the Indra Cancer Trust, our Lion H.D. Parakrama Perera will provide a July portion of monthly donation of LKR 2,000 for the next six months to support a child currently in grade 12 who is bravely battling cancer. The child has lost their father, making this support even more meaningful during this challenging period. This initiative is the Signature Project of our Project Chairperson, Lion Parakrama Perera, reflecting his commitment to supporting children and families facing difficult circumstances.

GREEN EARTH FOR BETTER FUTURE

As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, our Lions Club successfully donated and planted 18 Mee saplings at Sandaraja Maha Vidyalaya, Sevanagala. This project aims to enhance the green cover of the school environment, creating a cooler, healthier, and shade-filled atmosphere for over 350 primary students. Beyond improving the ecosystem, this initiative serves as a living educational tool, encouraging young minds to care for nature and protect the environment. We look forward to watching these trees grow alongside the students, fostering a greener and sustainable future for the community.

ORGANIC FARMING FOR SCHOOL

When our Lions Club planted 18 Mee saplings at Sandaraja Maha Vidyalaya in Sevanagala, we didn't just add shade—we restored a sacred piece of Sri Lanka’s heritage. Revered historically as the "Fertilizing Tree of the Nation," the Mee tree holds legendary status in ancient agrarian culture, where royal decrees once protected it near paddy fields. Kings recognized its extraordinary ability to naturally enrich surrounding soil through nutrient-dense leaf litter and bird visits. Useful literally "from head to root," every part of the tree serves a purpose: its sweet flowers provide natural tonics, its seeds yield medicinal Mee oil used in Ayurveda, and its dense canopy creates a natural cooling shield. By planting these saplings, we offer 350+ primary students a healthier microclimate and a living classroom, ensuring this ancient ecological powerhouse grows right alongside the next generation.

Dengue Prevention & Temple Cleanup Under the visionary concept of District Governor Lion Sunethra Tantiriwatta (MJF, MAF) of Lions International District 306 D2, aligned with the theme "Defeat Dengue, Save Lives," the Lions Club of Boralesgamuwa successfully executed a special community service project. To ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the resident Venerable Monks and the Dhamma School children at the historic Rathmalana Sri Chakindarama Temple, our club members dedicated their effort and time to carry out a comprehensive clean-up initiative. Key Project Highlights * *Comprehensive Environmental Sanitation:* Thoroughly cleaned the entire temple premises and its surrounding neighborhood. In celebration of Asela Poya, our Lions Club organized a traditional Dansala at Sri Sonuththara Temple, Boralasgamuwa. The initiative offered hospitality to nearly 100 observing Sil Att and local villagers participating in the religious observances. To encourage wholesome eating, we served traditional Pol Roti and boiled chickpeas. Beyond providing immediate nourishment, this project raised awareness about the health benefits of clean, nutrient-dense traditional Sri Lankan food. The event successfully fostered community spirit and selfless service. We sincerely thank the temple authorities and volunteers whose dedicated support made this project a success.

Eye care projects funded by Lions clubs funds of Lions Club Of Kumbuka Dynamic Eagles

A sum of Rs. 7,500 was allocated for an eye-screening programme for children under 9 years of age at Kumbuka Primary School. The programme aimed to identify children with vision problems at an early stage and provide appropriate support. Following the eye screening, more than 15 children were identified as requiring spectacles and were selected to receive them. This initiative helped improve access to essential eye care and supported the children's vision, learning, and overall well-being.

On August 11, 2026, Lion Kokila Jayathilaka of the Arawwala Lions Club donated Rs. 5,000 to the 'Prashakthi Foundation,' a social service organization that conducts relief programs for the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital. These funds are utilized to provide medication for patients visiting the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital for treatment.

On August 8, 2026, the President of the Arawwala Lions Club, Lion Nandika Perera—accompanied by his wife, Lion Dilini Perera, and their young daughter—visited the home of Lion Dharmaratna Silva, a senior member of the club, to present him with a birthday cake. As we had not given prior notice of our visit, Lion Dharmaratna was not at home; consequently, we handed the cake to his wife. This gesture was carried out by the President to acknowledge and appreciate the service of the club's Lion members
