A brainstorming session for the young inventors of Darmapala Vidyalaya, Arawwala Inventors club was conducted under the guidance of Lion Eng. Jayavilal Meegoda. During the session, students presented their initial invention concepts and received constructive guidance on how to systematically develop their projects. The mentors explained the importance of beginning with a proper literature review, understanding existing technologies, and identifying research gaps before proceeding with design and experimentation. Students were also advised on the need to obtain ethical clearances where required, especially for projects involving human participation, environmental impact, or data collection. In keeping with the values of Lions International, the program emphasized empowerment of youth through knowledge, mentorship, and service-oriented innovation. Students were encouraged to develop inventions that demonstrate creativity and technical skill but also address real societal challenges. |

As part of its continued commitment to youth development and sports promotion, the Lions Club of Piliyandala successfully carried out a project focused on the development of school cricket at Sri John Kotelawala Vidyalaya, Piliyandala. Under this initiative, cricket MAT was donated to the school with the objective of encouraging students to actively engage in cricket, enhance their sporting skills, and promote discipline, teamwork, and leadership among young players. This contribution is expected to support the school’s cricket program and provide students with the necessary resources to practice and compete effectively. The project was ably chaired by Lion Lasantha Wickramasinghe, whose leadership and dedication played a key role in the successful implementation of this initiative. Contributed to the development of the Teacher Training Manual for Innovation Lab educators, supporting the nationwide implementation of innovation-driven learning. With the establishment of over 750 Innovation Labs by the Ministry of Education, coupled with financial assistance to student inventors, this initiative marks a significant step toward transforming the education system to foster creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking among students. Through the Youth Programme on Engineering Inventions and Innovations initiated by the Lions Club of Polgasowita, real-life engineering experiences have been effectively shared with students, teachers, and school administrators. This programme bridges the gap between theoretical education and practical application, inspiring the next generation of innovators. To date, approximately 15 schools in the Polgasowita area have been engaged by establishing school-based invention clubs, conducting awareness sessions on competitions. |
