A humanitarian eye screening and vision care program was conducted in January in the remote and underserved Ritigala area, targeting economically disadvantaged communities with limited access to basic healthcare.
A team of optometrists, together with members of the Lions Club of Polgasowita—President Lion Eng. Jayavilal Meegoda, Lion Jayantha Abeygunarathna, Lion Jayasiri Attanayake, Lion Sugath Ranasinghe, and Lion Jayarathna Manamperi—carried out comprehensive eye examinations for the community.
During the screening, 90 individuals were identified with vision impairments, many of whom had never undergone an eye test before due to financial constraints and lack of access to medical services. Without timely intervention, several were at risk of gradual vision loss and potential blindness. Following the examinations, 90 pairs of spectacles were distributed to all identified beneficiarie.
